In an RV market increasingly defined by complexity, excess weight, and six-figure price tags, Kimbo is taking a different approach. At Overland Expo SoCal, the company will debut the Kimbo 8 — a new full-size truck camper platform engineered for eight-foot beds and extended living. Built on a decade of experience and more than 600 campers in the field, the Kimbo 8 represents a structural evolution of the brand’s aluminum architecture.
More than a simple two-foot stretch of the Kimbo 6, the Kimbo 8 is a ground-up reengineering — consolidating thousands of cumulative years of real-world customer use into a larger, more capable four-season platform.
“This camper is built on everything we’ve learned,” says founder Mark King. “After close to a decade and 600+ campers on the road, you gain thousands of cumulative years of feedback. The Kimbo 8 brings that learning into one refined platform.”
A Larger Platform. Purposefully Engineered.
The Kimbo 8 extends the floor length by two feet — but the impact is architectural, not incremental. The additional footprint enables a reimagined interior layout, including a queen-size loft, increased ceiling height, expanded storage, and a dedicated bathroom and mudroom zone. The result is a platform designed for extended travel — whether for couples, solo nomads, empty nesters, or small families seeking long-term mobility.
Despite the expanded footprint, weight has been carefully controlled. The Kimbo 8 is projected to carry a dry weight in the 1,300–1,500 lb range, depending on configuration — roughly one-third more than the Kimbo 6. For a full-size, hard-sided camper with a dedicated bathroom and true four-season capability, the result remains notably disciplined within its category, preserving the maneuverability and truck compatibility that define the Kimbo experience.
At its core, the Kimbo 8 retains the monocoque shell constructed from .1” 5052 marine-grade aluminum — eliminating the need for heavy interior framing while maintaining strength, durability, and repairability.
Engineered for Real Four-Season Autonomy
The Kimbo 8 advances Kimbo’s long-standing philosophy of building for longevity rather than replacement cycles. Insulation thickness has been doubled (to R10) and structural thermal bridging reduced to improve cold-weather performance. Buyers can choose between propane or diesel heating systems, expanding true four-season capability.
A dedicated generator bay supports winter travel when solar input is limited, while expanded roof real estate increases solar capacity. A new high-capacity battery architecture and standard compact desiccant dehumidifier further reinforce extended off-grid usability.
This is not a campground platform. It is engineered for independence.
A Bathroom Built Like a Kayak
One of the most requested additions was a dedicated bathroom. Rather than integrating a conventional RV wet bath — often prone to seam failure over time — Kimbo engineered a rotomolded, one-piece shower enclosure manufactured using the same process found in high-performance kayaks. The seamless construction eliminates joints where leaks typically develop, prioritizing long-term durability over short-term convenience.
The bathroom includes a cassette toilet as standard, with a composting upgrade option. Adjacent to the enclosure, a dedicated mudroom and closet system isolates wet gear from the primary living space — a practical refinement shaped by years of customer feedback.
Built for the Long Haul
The Kimbo 8 is designed as a platform that adapts to changing seasons of life. Convertible seating, optional bunk modules, expanded kitchen workspace, and increased natural light allow the camper to serve a range of travel styles — from extended remote work and creative pursuits to long-range exploration and shared adventures.
It is not simply larger. It is intentionally more livable.

Public Debut at Overland Expo SoCal
The Kimbo 8 will make its first public appearance at Overland Expo SoCal, where attendees can experience the new platform firsthand and engage directly with the Founder and with the Kimbo team. Founded in 2016 by inventor and entrepreneur Mark King, Kimbo Campers was born from a belief that mobile living should be durable, efficient, and intentionally simple. Influenced by the structural integrity of the USS Alabama — the nuclear submarine once commanded by his father — King approached camper design with a systems-first mindset.
