Campspotter Predicts Whether Your Next Overland Ad

After a year of growth, the app that tells overlanders whether a trip is worth the drive, before they pack the truck, returns to the show with a dedicated mobile app. Find the team at Booth #425.

Campspotter, which scores any spot on earth for camping, returns to Overland Expo Pacific Northwest with a dedicated mobile app. Visitors can see live demos of the app, which merges over 40 data sources into one honest 0-100 score so adventurers know whether a campsite will suck or not so that they can adjust their plans.

In the year since the last expo, Campspotter’s growing user base has run more than 8,500 assessments for trips spanning the globe. That is a whole lot of weekends quietly saved from washouts, smoke or worse. This year, the team is building on that momentum with a dedicated mobile app, shaped directly by user feedback to be more powerful, more capable and easier to use than ever.

Planning a multi-day trip usually means juggling a half-dozen tools (a weather app, a fire map, an air-quality tracker, a topo viewer, etc. etc.) and still gambling on a single forecast.

Campspotter pulls all of that scattered, specialist data into one readable number for anywhere on the planet and any date up to a year out.

"A year of user feedback all pointed in the same direction: people don't plan one campsite, they plan a trip. So we rebuilt Campspotter around the whole route, primary spots and backups, all updating as the forecast shifts. The score was always meant to save you a wasted weekend. Now it can save you a wasted week." — Michiel Pruijssers, Founder

One number, built from the data that actually matters

Drop a pin anywhere (no campground database to box you in), pick your dates, and Campspotter returns a 0-100 score with the day-by-day, hour-by-hour breakdown behind it. The score blends weather (temperature swings, wind, rain, cloud cover, humidity, UV, snow and frost, storm risk), LiDAR terrain and slope analysis with air quality and smoke, and wildfire, multi-spectral analysis and even weather emergency alerts.

Crucially, every forecast is cross-checked across 6 leading global weather models, so users get a best-case and worst-case estimate instead of one optimistic guess. For trips beyond the reliable forecast horizon, Campspotter falls back on 25 years of climate history so year-out planning still rests on real data.

Built for the overland audience

Campspotter is made for overlanders, off-roaders, van-lifers, RVers and backpackers, plus anyone who would rather show up prepared than gamble on a forecast. Beyond the score, the app offers a detailed worldwide topographic map with terrain, trails and off-road routes; side-by-side spot comparison for routing around the best conditions; and a solar calculator for fixed or mobile panel setups.

New this year, Campspotter supports planning and managing multi-day trips, tracking both your primary spots and its backups for every leg of the route. As the forecast shifts, all of the predictions update in seconds, so you can see at a glance how each camp and its alternates are tracking and know to adjust your course as soon as possible.

Because signal disappears exactly where the best camping starts, Campspotter is fully offline capable. Your scores, forecasts, trips and the rest of your weather and terrain data are cached on the phone, so you can carry all of it with you deep into the mountains and still have it at camp when the bars run out.

“This tool has greatly increased our success rate at determining which locations to head out to for the weekend and the slope feature is extremely helpful with finding that perfect campsite.”
